Västerviks Gymnasium

Our mission is to contact all young people covered by the activity responsibility to assess their current situation and offer individual planning. Therefore, we are looking for someone who wants to work as a motivating and supportive mentor for young people within this target group.

Your Responsibilities

You will collaborate with another youth mentor, the student health team, teachers, and other staff at Västerviks Gymnasium, as well as other relevant authorities in working with the youth. Your tasks consist of preventive measures within the upper secondary school that prevent dropouts, as well as mentoring young people aged 16-20 who are not enrolled in any form of education.

The role of the mentor includes two parts; preventive measures within the upper secondary school and support for work or return to studies. Early interventions to reduce dropouts from upper secondary school are extremely important to prevent later costs for the individual and society. From this perspective, we consistently work on transitions between primary school and upper secondary school. The municipal activity responsibility is based on a mentoring approach with individualized support.

You will also work on mapping and designing individual interventions to guide further. Collaboration with other actors such as career counselors, the employment agency, social assistance, the region, and workplaces is another part of your assignment, as well as administration and reporting of the youth's information. The position includes a documentation responsibility towards the municipality and other authorities.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with post-secondary education in behavioral science, social work, or equivalent education deemed suitable by the employer. You have previous work experience from investigative activities and motivational work with youth.

We prefer candidates who have worked with youth in need of special support and/or have documented conversation training. It is also considered an asset if you have a broad network within the local business community and/or the authority sector.

We place great importance on how you as a person collaborate with other adults and your approach to young people.

To succeed and thrive with us, you need to have a good ability to collaborate, be attentive, and easily understand other people's perspectives. You need to be self-assured, stable, flexible, and have good self-awareness. It is important in the role that you can express yourself clearly. You have a good ability to make connections and the perseverance to maintain them. You are flexible and have a structured work approach as documentation and follow-up are important aspects of your tasks.

Other Information

The position is subject to background checks. Applicants must present an extract from the police criminal record before employment occurs.
